Starting 33rd in the thirty-four car field, Thom completed 229 of the 250 laps in route to a 22nd place finish. Thom raced again in 2001, completing in four events that season. He raced decently, completing two of the events and both times ending up in the top-20. The better of those runs were a career-best 19th place effort at Memphis driving for Ware Racing Enterprises. He also finished a career-best 56th in points. Thom's final career race came in 2002, when Thom raced at Milwaukee. It was a disappointing end to his NASCAR run, finishing last (36th) after falling out early.
