Harmony was noted for its pleasant environment that had attracted other Vulcan special interest groups which included merchant traders, geologists, astrophysicists and even retired Starfleet officers. Starfleet maintained a small support and repair facility that contributed to the planet's treasury. (FASA RPG module: The Federation)

As a consequence of the extinction of most of the animal kingdom on the planet, the sentient population eventually dwindled in size to the mere 10,000 present when the Doctor arrived.
