  • Anka Grabowski was the Polish cleaner at the Lake Windermere holiday cottages where Joe McIntyre died, a death for which his widow Gail was wrongfully charged with murder. David Platt came up with a scheme to bribe Anka to give evidence confirming his mother’s innocence and convinced elder brother Nick to go along with him. They travelled to the Lakes and offered Anka £1,000 cash to give evidence for Gail in court but she demanded £2,000 up front and the same after. Agreeing to this deal, Anka went to a local police station and said that she was a witness on the night that Joe went off on his boat alone and left Gail on the jetty after a row and that therefore he couldn’t have been pushed overboard. However, when the trial reached Weatherfield Crown Court, Anka lost her nerve while waiting to be called. She apologised to a shocked David and walked out of the building. Anka's surname was given in dialogue in Episode 7348 (27th May 2010).
