Joe Andrew Paterson (born June 25, 1960) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey left winger who played nine seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Detroit Red Wings, Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings and New York Rangers. He is the head coach of the Adirondack Phantoms of the American Hockey League (AHL). After retiring in 1992, he has been an assistant coach and coach in the AHL and the Ontario Hockey League.

A defensive forward and enforcer in junior hockey, Paterson spent much of his early career splitting his time between the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League. He got a chance to be a regular for three seasons (1985-88) before ending his career in the AHL. After retiring in 1992, he has been an assistant coach and coach in the AHL and the Ontario Hockey League.
