abstract
  • Robert "Bob" Sirois (born February 6, 1954) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey right winger who played 286 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals. Originally drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in 1974, Sirois played in only four games with the Flyers in over two seasons before he was traded to the Washington Capitals. He spent five seasons with the Capitals and had the honour of representing the team at the 1978 NHL All-Star Game. He then played one season in Switzerland, and then in the AHL the year after that before retiring from active play in 1982, his career shortened by a serious back injury that left him with his left leg paralyzed. After retiring, Sirois held several positions, including being player agent. In 2009, he published a book, Le Québec mis en échec ("Quebec checked") at the Éditions de l'Homme in which he has collected the statistics of every French Canadian player drafted to the NHL and who has played in the NHL in the last 40 years, but also claims that French Canadians are victim of discrimination in the National Hockey League, using statistics to back his point of view.
