The merchant had first come across Mama Pumpkin, claiming that he had knowledge about flora. He had snatched up a baby pumpkin, believing it would make him a wealthy man. Graham threw some fool's gold in the town's fountain, distracting the merchant. While the merchant snatched up the trick coins, not even realizing they were fake, Graham returned the little pumpkin to its mother. The second time he met up with Graham, he questioned about the pumpkin, and Graham said he knew nothing about it. He said that he considered pearls to be of great value, and when Graham showed him a pearl, he handed a Shell Comb in exchange for it. Believing the pearl would fetch him a fortune back home, the man left the town, never to be heard from again.
