Substance-induced mood disorder is defined by the DSM is a more general category of mood disorders that are caused by the intoxication or withdrawal of a drug or medication. This disorder is described as having at least one of the following: * depressed mood or significantly diminished interest or pleasure in all, or almost all, activities * elevated, expansive, or irritated mood To use this diagnosis there must be proof that the intoxication or withdrawal of a drug or medication directly caused the mood disorder.
