During the Patriotic War of 1812, he served in the Third Infantry Corps, under LG Nikolay Tuchkov I, in the First Brigade of the Third Division. Serving directly under Major General Alexander Tuchkov IV, he became an officer and achieved the rank of Colonel, serving as a regimental chief. At The Battle of Borodino, Drizen lost part of his left leg and was replaced by Major Andrey von Fitinhoff, who would later be replaced by Lieutenant Grigory Shkarin II. He later served in the Ministry of War and was promoted to General of the Infantry. He died on 30 September 1851 in Riga.
