He played for Colorado College from 1968 to 1971. While there, he was chosen 73rd overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 1969 NHL Amateur Draft. Collyard turned pro with the Kansas City Blues in 1971-72 and spent three seasons in the Blues' system. In 1973-74 he was called up to St. Louis for what would turn out to be his only NHL experience - 10 games and scoring 1 goal and 3 assists. He played two seasons for EC Bad Nauheim in Germany and two more for the Milwaukee Admirals before retiring in 1983.
