The torpedo bomber was somewhat like other TIE designs, but was only able to use proton torpedoes. It moved the laser cannons back to chin-mounts and could carry a dozen torpedoes. Often, it was used in conjunction with the TIE/Ae Dive Bomber since both had a single overhead horizontal wing. It was originally used only on posters promoting the Empire, but it was stolen and pressed into service by Astragon.

The TIE/tb Torpedo Bomber was adopted by the Empire rather begrudgingly against the New Republic. When Astragon got in the fray, they were very under-prepared to see their enemy fielding their design in such massive numbers.
