To save herself from also being murdered, Katherine was forced to take a new identity and leave Toronto. Her only true regret was the fact that, in order to protect her alias, she had to leave behind all vestiges of her old life. And that meant leaving her car. Katherine remained abroad for decades; but, in the 1990s she decided it must surely be safe to return to Canada. She and her new husband settled in Hamilton. A rich woman from her interest in Barrington Stanton Industries, she was able to purchase for herself another of the classic old Auburns.

  • To save herself from also being murdered, Katherine was forced to take a new identity and leave Toronto. She also kept in touch with her former secretary, Madelyn Pinchot, now living in Toronto under the name Natasha Perry. As was her custom, she shared a photograph with "Natasha"—tearing it in two, and keeping the half that showed Madelyn, while giving to her the half with her own picture. When Madelyn was murdered, Nick Knight and his partner, Don Schanke, found the torn photograph. It fascinated Nick since he recognized Katherine, and suspected that the motive for Madelyn's death had been an attempt to find out from her what Katherine's whereabouts might be. Looking closely at the picture, Nick finally realized that, hidden within the pattern of the shadows in the background, was the shape of the distinctive hood ornament of the Auburn. He discovered that there were only two such cars registered in Ontario. One of these belonged to a woman in Hamilton—Katherine. Going to her house, Nick learned that she and her second husband were attending a dance in Toronto. He managed to get there in time to stop her from being murdered.
