Being one of the most intelligent, fastest, and experienced soldiers in the Stormtrooper Corps, he was transferred to an Imperial Commando unit and received additional training at Raxus Prime, which held him back. He was also taught how to defuse time bombs, pilot TIE and non TIE starfcraft, and other intense training. After his training, instead of going to work in the front, he decided to stay at the base as a Drill Sergeant, because he befriended another Storm Commando named Sarkil who also worked at the facility. They worked at the facility, and in 0 BBY, the facility was attacked by Mon Calamari terrorists. At the time, the two were drilling a group of five cadets in the courtyard. When the terrorists attacked, they bombed the courtyard which killed the cadets, due to their lack of armor. Avalon and Sarkil made their way up to the command center, where the terrorists took an Imperial General prisoner. Then they split up. Sarkil found a high post on a tower and used an E-web emplacement to take out enemies in the courtyard, who realized someone survived. Meanwhile, Avalon headed up to the command center, and found the terrorist leader, and after slaughtering the guards, killed him. Unfortunately, after being threatened by Darth Vader via hologram, the terrorist killed the Imperial General. Afterwards, a new commander was picked to run the training center, and Avalon and Sarkil were transferred to Vader's personal Death Squadron.
