  • The White Outdoor Equipment company was formed when White Farm Equipment sold and licensed the rights to the White brand name for lawn and garden and outdoor power equipment to MTD Products. MTD purchased this in 1981 and formed the company at its headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. White never actually built their own lawn & garden tractors, but had previously purchased them from the Jacobsen Corporation. For many years, the MTD name was not found on the White branded lawn or outdoor equipment, and they were exclusively marketed through White Farm Equipment dealers. Somewhere in the 1990s or early 2000s, the logo "by MTD" began to be included in advertising and on the products. Especially after the demise of the White farm equipment brand in 2001, White began to be seen in other stores and independent dealerships.
