Odona was the daughter of Ambassador Hodin of the planet Gideon. Gideon was suffering from overpopulation, as her people were immune to disease. In 2268, Hodin hoped to alleviate this problem by having Odona contract Vegan choriomeningitis, which Kirk had already suffered from earlier and still carried in his bloodstream. Hodin hoped that Odona's death from the disease would inspire other Gideons to follow her lead so that Gideon's population could be reduced. Odona was played by actress Sharon Acker.
