Mie Prefecture (三重県 Mie-ken?) is located on the southern coast of Honshu island. Mie Prefecture is in the Kinki / Kansai Region of Japan. It is located to the south-west of Aichi, on the western shore of Ise Bay (Ise Wan), to the south of Gifu and Shiga, to the east of Kyoto and Nara, and to the north of Wakayama. Mie has a population of just over 1.85 million people and in size is the 25th largest prefecture (of 47) in Japan. Mie varies from the densely populated, industrial north bordering Nagoya, to the more rural central and west, and finally to the sub-tropical deep south.
