  • Doctor Polaris has taken Green Lantern's power ring and is using it, and his magnetic powers, to enthrall the population of Los Angeles to do his bidding and increase his powers by tapping into their natural magentism. Hal and Tom, armed with a device built for them by Bruce Gordon, infiltrate the crowd but Doctor Polaris spots Hal and forces Tom to attack him. Hal manages to fend off the crowd and several power ring attacks and gets from Tom the device - a Solar Ray Filter, which encompasses Hal in a yellow aura. Hal manages to get close to Doctor Polaris but fells Hal again using his magnetic powers. After attracting iron-laden meteorites to destroy Hal, he saves him to prove his superiority bringing Hal close to him in the process. Hal concentrates and wills the ring to fly to him becoming Green Lantern again but not before Doctor Polaris' new level of magnetic powers opens a "gateway to the very heart of the universe." Believing the universe is held together by some type of magnetic force, Doctor Polaris means to tap into that resource. Fearing the universe will then break apart, Green Lantern pushes him into the center and they fight. Tapping into the source, Doctor Polaris grows in size and power. Green Lantern somehow manages to increase the absorption beyond Doctor Polaris' control and he is seemingly ripped apart by the force, his atoms "wrenched from his body" as he becomes pure magnetic force. Green Lantern returns to Los Angeles.
