The German Navy (Kriegsmarine) was the naval branch of the military of Nazi Germany. It saw action during World War II, in which it preyed on Allied shipping, destroyed the British Royal Navy and carried out amphibious landings on the British mainland during Operation Sealion. By the end of the war, which was a victory for the Axis, the Navy was under command of Grand Admiral Karl Dönitz.
