The 1976 Japanese Grand Prix was a Formula One race held at Fuji on October 24, 1976. It was the 16th and final round of the 1976 Formula One Season, and was the first Formula One Japanese Grand Prix. McLaren's James Hunt won his first Driver's Championship at this race, finishing third to clinch it by one point from Niki Lauda. Lauda had missed subsequent races after his near-fatal accident at Nürburgring. After Lauda withdrew from the race on lap 3, Ferrari still won the Constructors' Championship as Clay Regazzoni finished fifth. This Grand Prix was won by Mario Andretti in his and Lotus's only win of the season.
