The slasher, Harvard Kendal, killed seven women, all beauty shop owners or employees, in one year in the San Fernando Valley. The book was adapted into a movie-of-the-week, which in turn inspired a television spin-off. Bosch and his partner were each paid $50,000 by Universal studio for the right to use their real names in the movie and for providing technical assistance. They received an additional $50,000 for the spin-off. Bosch used his money to buy his house. His partner used to money to retire and move to Ensenada, Mexico.
