- Tizona is the sword carried by El Cid which was used to fight the Moors in Spain. It is now one of Spain's most cherished relics and can be found at the Museo del Ejército (Army Museum) in Madrid. One of El Cid's swords (another is named Colada), Tizona was taken in battle from a Moorish chief named Malik Bucar. The sword was given to his daughter's husband as a marriage gift, but some time later, due to his daughter's poor treatment at the hands of her husband, Colada was taken back and given to his nephew Pedro Bermudez. The sword is 103 cm long and weighs 1.1 kg. Tizona was supposedly forged in Cordoba, though considerable amounts of Damascus steel can be found in its blade.

Segundo os peritos, a lâmina é contemporânea de El Cid e é de alta qualidade, mas a empunhadura foi substituída por outra da época dos Reis Católicos, renascentista. A lâmina possui as seguintes inscrições: IO SOI TISONA FUE FECHA EN LA ERA DE MILE QUARENTA (Eu sou Tizona. Fui feita na era de mil e quarenta) Essa data corresponde, na verdade, ao ano de 1002, pois 1040 se refere não à era cristã, mas à "Era Hispânica" que se iniciava em 38 a.C. e na face oposta: AVE MARIA GRATIA PLENA DOMINUS TECUM (Ave Maria, cheia de graça, o Senhor é convosco). Tizona é uma típica espada longa de qualidade superior. O comprimento total é de 1,02 m (lâmina de 78,5 cm, com largura de 4,5 cm) e o peso de 1,15 kg.
