| - Why did RuneScape just now decide to start its own wiki, what could they hope to achive? This site has been around for ages and is regularly updated and very accurate making it seem like Jagex is trying to ruin this site. pyrolord 06:01, November 25, 2011 (UTC) Probably for the same reason they never upgraded the wiki to a Gold level fansite, let alone Platinum. The Guy 7 07:15, November 25, 2011 (UTC) Well... The Jagex one, over time, could have extra things added with Wikia one can't get, i.e. concept art, hints about future releases, ect. that the Wikia one won't be able to get. Also, Jagex themselves can help edit, adding more info Wikia RS Wiki might not know. Jagex Wiki is guna fail so hard. They need to either beef up the requirements (Id suggest 1 year membership, total 1800/2000+, 150 days play time etc) or bring in Wiki Mods (LOL!) Log File:Overload (4).png 17:21, November 25, 2011 (UTC) So if having low requirements means the Jagex wiki is going to 'fail so hard', are you suggesting that this wiki, where you don't even have to log in to edit, should 'beef up the requirements' as well? Honestly, I think the fact that you need to pay them to help them with their wiki is bad enough. The Guy 7 02:18, November 27, 2011 (UTC) But we won't have to deal with advertisements or their sounds on Jagex Wiki.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.135.148.2 (talk) on 18:51, 26 November 2011 (UTC). There most certainly are adverts on the Jagex wiki. File:Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 19:24, November 26, 2011 (UTC) Well im disapointed in Jagex. They could've saved themselves alot of hassle and made this its "official wiki" and encouraged players to use it. I'll continue to use this wiki when I'm active as i feel it will have more longevity in what is stated here. Jagex's wiki could prove useful however in having mod imput on some articles which could potentially be cited over here? Not sure on the copywrite status of that however. First, it loads slowly, and second, it currently consists mainly of a community that steals content off other fansites, including this awesome wiki. Personally, I will fully support this wiki and I will do my best to delete content on the Jagex wiki that has been stolen off this great community website. 99.22.0.78 14:23, November 27, 2011 (UTC) Unless it's direct copy and pasting, I don't think it's a problem if people take useful information from one resource and adds it to another. That's basically the whole point of making a Runescape resource, to give as much useful information as possible. This is not achieved if you decide not to add some information just because it was stated at another place first. Take for example the Stone of Jas article on this wiki (in particular the Combat Bonus section). That article necessarily 'stole' information from the Jagex Wiki, because it would have been impossible to figure it out through ingame testing. The Guy 7 05:09, December 5, 2011 (UTC) Okay, first of all, our Stone of Jas article existed long before Jagex's wiki did. Second, it's one thing to look at our abyssal whip article, take note of the whip's stats, and add them to another wiki. These are simple statistics and are not eligible for copyright. However, this is not what people have been doing. People have been copying our entire articles, or sections of our articles, verbatim and placing them on the Jagex wiki, in violation of copyright law. Regardless of your opinion, as explained on this notice, it is illegal to copy text verbatim from this wiki and add it to the Jagex wiki. --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 05:28, December 5, 2011 (UTC) When I mentioned the Stone of Jas article, I was talking about the Combat Bonuses section, which clearly had information taken directly from the Jagex Wiki because it is not possible to obtain that kind of information ingame. My response above was made to say that we shouldn't discourage this kind of behaviour (for any resource, including the Jagex Wiki) for the reasons given above. Regarding copyright, your tone and use of words implies that I said something very different to what I did, when really both of our responses are basically saying the same thing (for clarity, a paraphrase would be: 'it's okay to take information but not if you directly copy and paste').The Guy 7 11:58, December 5, 2011 (UTC) There is nothing against taking information and re-wording it, as that can't be copyrighted in this sense. The statistics on the Stone of Jas article you are talking about aren't copyrighted, as, if they were somewhere on the official RuneScape website, the information have no been simply copied and pasted from there to here, but completely changed, with simply the statistics being the same. There is nothing stopping you from reading information here and then putting it somewhere else if you completely reword it, as we don't have any copyright over that information. File:Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246File:Blue hallowe'en mask.png 12:05, December 5, 2011 (UTC) Yes, that's what I'm saying too.The Guy 7 12:13, December 5, 2011 (UTC) I don't think too many people are going to stop using this wiki in favor of the official one, for three reasons: 1.
* The official wiki has much more restrictions. 2.
* The official wiki is very hard to use. 3.
* This wiki already has a large amount of information. You know what they say? Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. :-) --Ixfd64 19:53, November 28, 2011 (UTC)
