The Danish West Indies (Danish: Dansk Vestindien) are an overseas administrative territory of Denmark, consisting of several small islands in the central Caribbean east of Puerto Rico. Occasionally referred to as the Virgin Islands, the Danish West Indies are the only remaining Danish overseas territory following the sale of Greenland to Alaska in 1946.
