While still attending the University of Cincinnati, Payne began working on films, including the 2005 Disney superhero adventure Sky High. Since receiving his degrees, Payne has provided makeup effects on such 2007 films as The Heartbreak Kid and Hairspray. He has worked as a makeup effects technician for W.M. Creations on several films, including In the Valley of Elah, Untraceable (featuring Tim de Zarn), and Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (starring John Cho). He also collaborated with W.M. Creations on such television shows as House (starring Jennifer Morrison), Lost (co-created by J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof), Desperate Housewives (starring Teri Hatcher, Steven Culp, Mark Moses, and Alfre Woodard), and the CBS Paramount series CSI, NCIS, and Medium. He also worked as an instructor at EI School of Professional Makeup in Hollywood. Payne now lives and works in Chicago, providing special effects makeup for the NBC series Chicago Fire.
