- Vance Astrovik was born in Saugerties, New York, the only son of a small-town butcher Arnold Astrovik and his wife Norma. Going into the U.S. Air Force at the age of 18, Astrovik (who changed his name to Astro when he was 21) became the youngest man to be accepted into the astronaut training program several years later. In 1988, Astro volunteered for the first manned interstellar mission ever conducted by the United States, Project: Starjump.

| - Major Victory is William Vickers, a patriotic superhero with a suit that gives him special powers. His career began as the leader of Force of July, a group sponsored by racist government officials. He has also been a member of the Captains of Industry, the Shadow Fighters, and the Suicide Squad. Eventually he died in battle against Eclipso. His successor Major Victory II was captured by the Hollow Men. Major Victory III is the leader of Freedom's Ring, a group within the organization S.H.A.D.E.. Major Force rips off his arm and beats him to death with it. He is replaced by Major Victory IV. Major Victory was created by Mike W. Barr and Jim Aparo, first appearing in .
