He had recurring roles on "Make Room For Daddy", "Gomer Pyle, USMC", and "Green Acres". Melton appeared in the experiments Lost Continent and Radar Secret Service. His tendency to play broad comedy earned him the derision of the SOL crew, who associated his name with the phrase "Little Monkey Boy" (in The Brain That Wouldn't Die).
