- OOC stands for Out Of Character. When you are logged into the MUSH, OOC refers to any player-to-player interactions outside of RP. These can include OOC pages, chatting in the Lounge, @mail messages, and so on. OOC is also used to describe any information which is available to a player, but not to their character/s; for example, a player might be aware of ________. GarouMUSH players are expected to understand and respect the line between IC and OOC information, and play the game accordingly. See also: Wikipedia's definition of OOC.
- Out of character. Most Mu*s have an area or channel reserved for ooc chatter. This can mean anything from talking about dinner last night to to talking about how what another player said in roleplay was out of line.
- OOC, or Out-Of-Character, is the name for the chat that is nothing to do with the current roleplay.
- Out-of-character (OOC) is used in roleplaying. In this case, OOC refers to things said by the author of the message, rather than by the character(s) that author is playing. In game, OOC writing is often denoted by closing the text in double parenthesis. ((This would be an out-of-character statement in the game.)) /say Hello, my name is Bob. ((Actually, my character's name isn't Bob, but he's lying.)) Variations such as double brackets, lesser-than and greater-than signs, and double dashes closing the text are also practiced.
- Acronym of Out Of Character
- OOC is an abbreviation for "out of character". Originating from online RPGs such as MU* (and, later, MMORPGs like EverQuest), some pen-and-paper troupes have taken to using it in game to denote when they are speaking as themselves and not as their character. It can be said in its abbreviated form (O-O-C) or pronounced as "ook".
- OOC = Out of Character/ Out of Context - refers to information (or even entire posts) containing out-of-game information such as IRL constraints / information which may clarify something in the meta-game universe - e.g. host just texted me he lost his Internet connection. Post will be up later. Sometimes used for remarks which are not related to the current Mafia game (slightly off-topic) e.g. tech support for forum functions or clarifications of board / forum rules which transcend the boundaries of the game. __NOEDITSECTION__
- OOC in the context of roleplaying means "out of character as contrasted to IC, in character. For example, in a fantasy based MUD an young elf to be in character, should act like the young elf character in the fantasy world might act. Starting a discussion about Barack Obama would be out of character, OOC.
- It stands for Out Of Character, which means the player is not playing either of his Characters. The player is basically playing himself.
- IF/WHEN you post in the OOC section, post your charactername/ real name so i can see who it was posting.
- OOC (Out of Character) is a term used to distinguish between if something is said by the character or by the player. OOC means that something is being said by the player to refer to something in the game. This can sometimes be confused with RL but they are actually very different. * RL
* IC
- OOC is an abbreviation for "Out of Character." Out of Character chat is usually identified when messages are typed with ((double brackets.)) Some roleplayers, especially those with FlagRSP, don't like OOC chat or prefer to keep it to a minimum.
- OOC, or Out Of Character, is the term that describes anything that happens outside of the main Midian role-play. Example: If you, the player, knows that the doctor at the MCMC is a cannibal, that is OOC information. Your character may not act on this information unless he or she has found this out through the process of role-play. Or is being nibbled on in the waiting room. If your character displays knowledge that they could not posses, it is considered meta and action may be taken against you by a Game Master or Admin.

If your character displays knowledge that they could not posses, it is considered meta and action may be taken against you by a Game Master or Admin. OOC is also used to describe chatter, usually marked with double parentheses ((Like this)) or double brackets Like this that separate OOC chat from regular, role-play chat. This allows you to say something to other players, either a joke or a question about the role-play at hand, without disrupting the game. Example: If you were in a combat situation and were unclear as to if the cannibal doctor is attacking you or your companion, you would say in Local Chat ((Hey, is Dr. Toothsome on top of me or my rather savory, juicy friend?)). Since your character would know the answer, but perhaps you forgot, this is an acceptable way of getting that information to use in the role-play. OOC chatter should ALWAYS be separated from regular, In Character (IC) chat whether by brackets or (preferably) through an Instant Message to the concerned parties. It should be kept to a minimum in Local Chat to avoid distracting those role-playing around you.
