The 1998 Dura Lube/Kmart 500 was a Winston Cup Series (now Nextel Cup) event held at Phoenix International Raceway on October 25, 1998. Rusty Wallace won his only race of the year after a bizarre weather pattern caused the race in the desert to end due to rain. Wallace, who led 196 of 257 laps held off Mark Martin following a pit stop cycle and the race never restarted. Jeff Gordon, whose streak of 18 straight top-five finishes ended with a 7th place showing, still held a 329-point championship lead on Martin. Stats
