The Peace Defender, also known as the Galactic Republic Defender, is a starfighter that was created by the Incom Corporation specifically at the request of the galactic government some time before the Clone Wars. As a starfighter, the Peace Defender doesn't fare incredibly well in deep space combat, however in gravity wells it exceeded the standard for speed at the time of its creation quite well. It boasts advanced sensors, to allow for detecting threats to its respective planets and systems, and has moderately powerful shields.

  • The Peace Defender, also known as the Galactic Republic Defender, is a starfighter that was created by the Incom Corporation specifically at the request of the galactic government some time before the Clone Wars. The craft is also easily modified to adapt to the different types of star systems; radiation shielding, increased atmospheric thrusters, and the like can be swapped in or added to this craft for greater adaptability. Its swiveling engine design makes it an excellent patrol craft as well. When extended, the thrusters offer more lateral control for maneuverability in combat, but overall sublight speed is reduced. When contracted, however, the focused thrust of the engines decreases maneuverability but offers a higher top speed (especially within a planet's atmosphere). The idea behind the Peace Defender was to provide systems with little manufacturing capability a way to defend against pirate bands or other threats to their sovereignty. Systems that didn’t have the means to protect themselves could be issued the starfighters by the Republic to keep them safe. However the idea didn’t catch on due to several factors, not the least of which was a lack of cooperation from many of the worlds that would have been eligible to receive the Peace Defender. Many were either too proud to accept the charity or felt threatened that they would be in the Republic's debt. By the time the Clone Wars ignited, the starfighter was largely forgotten. In modern times it is seen mainly in the hands of backwater navies.
