Synopsis
  • Swamp Thing is visited in the swamp by Abby Cable, and he notices that her spirits seem to be much higher than they have in past weeks. She explains that her husband has given up drinking, and is now looking for a home for the two of them. Meanwhile, her job at a school for autistic children is going very well. As they talk, however, Swamp Thing suddenly notices an apparition of Alec Holland nearby, and leaves Abby alone to follow it. He follows the ghost all the way back to the ruins of his former lab, which is still standing, though barely. Inside, he sees visions of Alec Holland's past life with his wife Linda. He expresses some regret over having lost the happiness of that life. However, his visions shift to the night where Holland died, when Maxwell Ferrett and his men knocked him out, and planted a bomb. After his vision-version of Holland leaps into the swamp in flames, he digs a grave, hoping to set the ghost to rest by finally, burying Alec Holland's body. However, he waits and waits, but the body never emerges. Eventually, Swamp Thing watches as a past version of himself rises from the water, a mirror image. He realizes that this vision can see him, but it motions for him to stay silent, pointing into the mud and water of the swamp. After the vision disappears, Swamp Thing realizes that the body is still under water. While Holland's corpse may have decomposed years ago, his skeleton remains. Swamp Thing dives down, pulling the skeleton free, and then buries it in the grave he dug. He marks the grave with a bent twig, and lays Alec Holland's spirit to rest at last.
