| - They are one of the most popular candies in the world; Hershey's kisses were the fifth most popular candy in 1989. More than 80 million Hershey Kisses are produced every day. Hershey's kisses were wrapped by hand from 1907 to 1921. In 1921, automated wrapping began. The machine that did this could also put a little slip of paper inside the Kiss, which is still there today. In 1924, the strip became a registered trademark of the company. These candies have been produced continuously from 1907 to now excluding the years from 1942 to 1949. This is because the aluminum used for the wrapping became very scarce.Until 1962, Hershey's Kisses were only available in silver wrappings. But in 1962, green and red wrappings were introduced for Christmas. In 1968, Easter wrappings were made and in 1986, Valentine's Day wrappers began being manufactured. This candy's name has been the same throughout the years. The price of Hershey's Kisses went down when they started being mass produced, but since then the price has gradually gone up due to inflation. Today, 12 ounces of Hershey's Kisses costs $3.75. The Hershey's Kiss has been pretty consistent over the years, other than the packaging color and a slight price change. Though these small candies used to only be produced with milk chocolate, many new flavors have been introduced such as (caramel, Dark Chocolate, toffee, coconut, mint chocolate, peanut butter, strawberry, and many more). They have become so popular that a postage stamp has recently been issued honoring the Hershey's Kiss. These candies are loved by many today.
