abstract
  • A helmet labeled "Iain" in Futhork was shown amongst various props in a gallery of Star Wars: Episode I Insider's Guide, an interactive CD-ROM produced following the release of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace in 1999. However, the inscription on the helmet remained undeciphered for years, since the mapping of the Futhork alphabet was not officially revealed until 2008, with the release of The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia. Although the Insider's Guide describes the prop as a helmet of the Royal Security Forces, it has in fact the shape of an engineer's helmet—like the one worn by Simon Jabesq. The character of Iain shares a name with Iain McCaig, who worked as a conceptual designer on The Phantom Menace. This present article assumes that such marked Naboo helmets correspond to the wearers' names, following the example of Simon Jabesq, whose helmet reads "Simon" when using the transliteration table from The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia.
