Ironically, Solduri weren't actually German but Celtic; the term "solduri" (singular: solduros) refers to a band of Celtic warriors in which each man was pledged to defend another comrade in the band; if the one of these two died, and the other did not, the remaining man would take his own life after the battle, for having failed to defend him.
