Stegolophodon is an extinct Proboscidean genus included with the gomphotheres that lived during the Miocene and Pliocene epochs. As with Gomphotheres and unlike modern elephants, Stegolophodon had four tusks as well as a trunk, and may have evolved from Stegodon. Skeletal remains have been found in the Miocene of Japan, Pakistan, and Thailand, the Miocene-Pliocene of South Africa, and Pliocene of China and India.
