Captain James Edward Cogshill of HMS Buckler was assigned by Sir Richard Lambert, Vice Admiral of the Blue, KB, in command of the Jamaica Station, to assume command pro tempore of HMS Renown, at the time Renown arrived at Port Royal after capturing the gun batteries and three prizes at Scotchman's Bay. Cogshill also served on the board of inquiry investigating the disability of Captain Sawyer and the mission to take Scotchman's Bay.
