abstract
| - Danny Woodards joined Rovers from Milton Keynes Dons in late August 2011, shortly after the start of the 2011–12 season. After a busy summer break that saw a great deal of transfer activity, the defender became manager Paul Buckle's sixteenth signing since taking charge of the club's affairs just two months earlier. After signing a one-year deal, Woodards was thrown straight into first team action, making his debut as a 35th-minute substitute for an injured Adam Virgo in the 3–2 defeat to Leyton Orient in the Carling Cup on 30 August 2011. He remained a regular starter, playing at both centre half and at right back, and he picked up the club's Player of the Year award at the end of the season. Things took a turn for the worse however when he suffered a broken leg in the final game of the season, a 4–0 defeat to Dagenham & Redbridge, sidelining him for the beginning of the 2012–13 campaign. That paled into insignificance however when two months later his brother was stabbed to death in a brawl in a London shopping centre. It wasn't until mid-November 2012 that he was able to return to the pitch. Although he had spent much of the previous season in the right-back position, an in-form Michael Smith meant Woodards was used primarily as a central defender this time around until he again suffered a serious injury, this time damage to his anterior cruciate ligament, which necessitated surgery and a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
