- Jove, also known as Jupiter ‘Jove-father’, was the supreme god in the Roman/Latin pantheon. Jove appears to be historically identical to the Greek god Zeus and they were identified with one another in classical times. Jove was both a storm-god and god of the clear sky. The form Jupiter is actually a slight corruption of the form Iuppiter actually found in the Latin texts.

Jove was believed to be son of Saturn and Ops. His statues normally depicted Jove as a muscular and bearded man in his 30s or 40s, often bearing a thunderbolt. Jove tended to be identified either with the supreme god or the storm god in other pantheons.
