  • The wikewklukkoh, or cave mouse, was a small rodent that inhabited the caves of Eniam. They were quite similar to other common Galactic mice and rats, as well as other creatures of the caves. They had sleek bodies that moved on four small feet that had tiny suction pads that allowed them to move on all sides of the caves. They had black or gray fur, tan skin, prominent ears and dark eyes. Unlike many rodents, they did not have a particularly strong sense of smell. Their most distinguishing feature was the bony knob at the end of their long, slightly furry tails. The knobs were very tough, yet light, as the bone in the knob was reinforced in an efficient pattern of struts rather than being solid all the way through. The knobs had two main functions. One was to use as a tail mace. The lowest area of the ball was very insensitive to pain. The other function was to serve as a lure. The knob closely resembled the wikewklukkoh's head, and even had weak bio-luminescent organs to attract attention to the false eyes. However, biting the tail would bring a nasty surprise - it was very hard and covered in acidic venom. The poison was contained inside the ball, and could incapacitate anything from another cave mouse to a cave bear with pain. It did not usually cause any permanent damage. Before excreting poison, a cave mouse's tail ball would excrete a slimy protective liquid to keep from being damaged by its own poison. The inside of the knob was also lined with the repellent. However, the tail was often significantly damaged. It could heal very quickly, but it was common for wild wikewklukkohs to go around with injured tail balls. The skin of most of the luring knob was very sensitive so the mouse would be alerted when its tail was bitten. Therefore, it too experienced pain, but it would save the mouse's life.
