The RX170 features an alder body bolted to a maple neck with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot position markers. Components include a TZ synchronized tremolo bridge and Ibanez Powersound pickups. This particular model was sold only in Europe and discontinued after 1995. Another model with the same name but with a maple fretboard was produced concurrently and sold in the American market. A similar model was also sold in Japan in 1999. The RX170 was replaced for 1996 by the very similar RX170D.
