- Darren Robert Anderton (born 3 March 1972 in Southampton) was this decent England international midfielder who was always injured. Anderton spent the majority of his career at Tottenham Hotspur and the vast majority of that time on the treatment table. The hapless talent's body was as sturdy as a house of cards and any rugged challenge, push in the back or gust of wind would be enough to sideline him for a number of weeks.

However, Anderton was pretty good at football during the mid-1990s when hardly anyone from England was. On rare occasions when the fresh-faced playmaker wasn't incapacitated, he linked up with the likes of Nicky Barmby and Teddy Sheringham and impressed sufficiently to book a place in England's squad for Euro '96. In England's semi-final defeat against Germany, Anderton was inches away from winning the game but his shot hit the post. Shortly afterwards David Beckham was invented and that was the end of that. At the tail end of his career, Anderton joined minnows Bournemouth and played a crucial role in keeping the Cherries in the Football League after they were arbitrarily docked lots and lots of points. For no real reason, the Southampton native retired in the middle of the 2008-09 season on December 7, 2009 just days after netting the winner against Chester City with a spectacular volley. It later emerged that Anderton wasn't aware that the season was only half finished having never completed a full campaign without injury. On his way out of Dean Court, Anderton stubbed his toe really badly.
