Mr Birch was the father of Roy Birch, who appeared at the Magistrates Court on an unspecified charge on the same day as Jerry Booth in October 1971. Roy's woes were exacerbated by the fact that his father hadn't arrived to support him. Roy asked a policeman if he'd seen his flat-capped, glasses-wearing dad but with no luck. Roy then told Jerry Booth that his father lived with a girlfriend as his wife was dead, and that he worked nights and might have overslept. Roy Birch's court appearance was in Episode 1124 (25th October 1971).
