Nanaimo County is a county in the U.S. State of Pacifica, located on south-central Vancouver Island. The county's population as of the 2010 census was 297,455 people. The county seat is Nanaimo, and it also includes communities such as Cowichan, Lake Cowichan, Alberni, Parksville, and extends from the western shore of the island near Tofino to the islands of the Strait of Georgia (Inside Passage). It is adjacent to Holt County on the south, Campbell County on the north, and Squamish County across the Strait of Georgia. The county is coterminous with the Nanaimo Metropolitan Area.
