Tripolymer plasma was a type of plasma composed of elements unknown to the Federation, used by the Pralor and Cravic to power the chromodynamic power modules in their automated personnel units. Warp plasma from a Federation starship is a very different substance to tripolymer plasma, most notably because it is more highly charged. It can, nevertheless, be made compatible with tripolymer plasma if regulated through a series of anodyne relays. (VOY: "Prototype")

(VOY: "Prototype") The root word "polymer" is a term referring to certain types of molecular chains, usually found in organic molecules such as proteins, and synthetic materials such as plastics. Current science knows of no material that could exist in a plasma state and retain itself as a polymer, since plasma high energy interactions cause electrons to exist free of the atomic nucleus.
