Ethiopia had been a powerful and gold rich kingdom below Aegyptus for centuries before becoming a Roman Province. They had established trade routes as far away as the Maurya and were on good ground with the Romans and Aegyptians. One new Emperor of Ethiopia, named Aphilas, declared war on the Romans and eventually lost his kingdom and life. Ethiopia was allowed to be a Senatorial Province in exchange for certain favors after their surrender. Among them was the appointment of the son of Aphilas as the new Governor and his family as the Governatorial family of their province, as well as being a Senatorial Province.
