During the Clone Wars, he was known as Chancellor Palpatine to the general public, and was always giving the new information about the Confederacy of Independent Systems whenever they created something new. As Darth Sidious, his real persona, he gave the Confederacy orders to attack planets and take them over. He is the one responsible for the devastating Clone Wars, as he controlled the wars on both sides, resulting in the deaths of billions of lifeforms. After the Clone Wars ended, Palpatine later had Count Dooku killed, convinced Anakin to turn to the Dark Side, and had all of the Jedi and Separatist leaders killed and all of the Battle Droids shut down. Seeing as no one was left to oppose him, he destroyed the Republic, shed his "kind" image, and created the Galactic Empire. He reigned for about 5 or so years, controlling every planet and every living thing with fear by using weapons such as the Death Star to keep people from protesting. When the droid army returns as the New Confederacy of Independent Systems, Palpatine does everything he can to destroy the growing Confederacy and keep his power.
