The 2nd Law is the sixth studio album by Muse, released throughout most of the world on the 28th of September 2012, and elsewhere on the 2nd of October 2012. The title of the album refers to the second law of thermodynamics, which states that it is impossible to create a perpetual motion machine. It was apparently chosen due to its correlation with the world becoming more and more technologically driven, that eventually we may destroy ourselves from the consumption of energy.

The title of the album refers to the second law of thermodynamics, which states that it is impossible to create a perpetual motion machine. It was apparently chosen due to its correlation with the world becoming more and more technologically driven, that eventually we may destroy ourselves from the consumption of energy. The lead single from the album was Survival, which was released on 27 June 2012, as the official song of the London 2012 Summer Olympics. Four more singles were released: Madness, Follow Me, Supremacy and Panic Station.
