  • The Red Shell is a throwing item from the Super Mario series which also appears in Super Smash Flash 2. It is one of the 3 items from the shell family, which also includes the Green Shell and the Spiny Shell. Unlike the Green Shell, the Red Shell will automatically move towards the closest player (including the user), yet will not fall off of edges.
  • The Red Shell has appeared in all the Mario Kart games.

  • Red Shells appear as staple items in the Mario Kart series, appearing in almost every installment - canon or fanon - and usually functions in the same way. Once thrown, Red Shells tend to lock on to the racer ahead of the thrower, and will target them. They are unable to bounce off of walls in most installments.
  • A Red Shell is an Item that has made its way into all Mario Kart games. It is favored as a strong attack Item, as it almost always succeeds in knocking over an enemy driver. Red Shells may be picked up in singles or triples- triple Red Shells almost rotate around the driver's kart instead, forming a defensive barrier which protects the player from some stray items and knocks over racers around them.
  • In the Mario Kart series, they can home in on the opponent whose rank is one higher than the driver's. Red Shells can be picked up in singles or triples, in which case they circle around the kart until all three are fired. In this state, they can be used as a barrier, useful for blocking contact with other hazards, such as Bananas and other shells. However, they offer no protection against Blue Shells and Fake Item Boxes. If the character comes in contact with any other driver, then the other driver will be knocked over. The exception to this rule is in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, where the shells are carried rather than circle around a character's kart. Whenever you fire a Red Shell behind you, it will travel in a strait path like a regular Green Shell, so they are more useful to launch in
  • In the Mario Kart series, Red Shells were items that you could find within item boxes. Once tossed, they would home in on the closest enemy. This particular item has been featured in every Mario Kart game to date starting with Super Mario Kart. Interestingly, in Mario Kart: Double Dash‼ for the GameCube, a red shelled Paratroopa was featured as a playable character. His special item was three Red Shells.
  • The Red Shell (a red Koopa shell) is a throwing item appearing in the first two Super Smash Bros. games that actively hunts out the nearest player, even the player that activated it. Instead of sliding in the same direction it was thrown in after coming in contact with the ground, it starts sliding from left to right, targeting the closest player. When stationary, the Red Shell activates when jumped on or after coming in contact with a hitbox. Like the Green Shell, a sliding Red Shell halts all movement upon being jumped on. The Red Shell does moderate set knockback. When the Red Shell is reflected, its damage output is increased, but its knockback is not. A reflected Red Shell will also have much more hitlag when it hits a player.
