Clinch wrestling featured a number of complex holds. As the Ossaki lacked heads and had four strong arms, grips and positioning were vital to maintaining control over enemies. In training, Ossaki usually fought to submission, achieved by incapacitating arm locks. Clinch wrestling also utilized a number of throws and takedown techniques, as well as extensive ground fighting. Maintaining balance was critical to success in a sparring match or a real fight. In life-and-death combat, Ossaki might finish fights by breaking arms or spines or gouging the eyes or nostrils of their enemies.

After Feldirjo joined the Golden Empire and leapt forward technologically, clinch wrestling became less a necessary part of life. However, it quickly gained popularity as a combat sport. Feldirjo did a small but lucrative trade in betting on professional clinch wrestling fights, and a few of the best fighters gained Empire-wide popularity. Tariun Sakaros, then-Prefect of the Order of Keltrayu, made some attempts to adapt clinch wrestling for the use of humanoids, but with mixed success. Since the Ossaki lacked heads, their style included none of the choking techniques which were useful against humanoids. In addition, many of clinch wrestling's holds and throws required more than two hands; even accounting for an opponent who also had only two hands, throws would have required complete redesigns to be generally effective. In the end the project was abandoned.
