Daniel Popovic, sometimes credited as Danijel, is a Montenegrin-born pop singer well known in much of the former Yugoslavia and most notably in Croatia. He was born of a Montenegrin mother and a Belgian father. He represented Yugoslavia at the Eurovision Song Contest 1983 in Munich with the song Džuli, his triumph at the 1983 Yugoslavian final was seen as a surprise as many saw a Bosnian folk singer as the clear favorite. He performed well in Munich, finishing in 4th place and the song became a huge hit afterward. 2015 Macedonian representative Daniel Kajmakoski is named after Popovic.
