  • Carlotta Francis was the author of a series of books published in the 50's about a vampire named Lord Fantomas. After her last book was published, she committed suicide. This lent her an air of mystique that ensured her an everlasting fandom consisting mostly of grim and gothically-inclined Gen-Xers. In the modern day, the NYC chapter of the Carlotta Francis fan club became embroiled in a murder investigation after one of their members, Dorian Cavanaugh, began dating a supposed fan named Jocelyn Shapiro, who was actually a con artist named Lori Purcell. Lori conned Dorian into giving her a priceless set of Carlotta Francis first editions, setting off a chain of events that led to her death. (CI: "Collective")
