| Synopsis
| - In the middle of the night Jimmy is apparently summoned by Superman to meet Superman at the Corner of Oak and Maple. There he explains to Jimmy that someone is out to kill him with Kryptonite, and uses a device to transfer his super-powers to Jimmy so that Superman can protect himself from his enemy. Superman reveals who this person is: Clark Kent, who he tells Jimmy has betrayed him to the underworld and that he plans to sell information to the underworld, and asks Jimmy to go and retrieve it, which the Cub reporter agrees to do.
Of course, this is another criminal plot to manipulate the gullible Jimmy Olsen, as "Superman" is really the criminal "Houdini" Watson, who had gotten plastic surgery to alter his appearance to look like the Man of Steel so that he could trick Jimmy into destroying evidence that would put him and his gang away. To facilitate this, they plant fake Kryptonite in both Clark's sports coat and in a cake for Superman, so that Jimmy would find them and believe Houdini's story. When Clark goes off as Superman to rescue people in a train wreck, the angry Jimmy steals Clark's notes and turns them over to "Superman." However, Jimmy realizes that he never got ride of the Kryptonite and when he notices that "Superman" is unaffected by it, he realizes that he's been tricked.
Later, the crooks also manage to capture Clark Kent as well, and as they are leaving the city to eliminate them, Clark secretly uses his x-ray vision to puncture the car's gas tank when it runs out of fuel. When the police arrive, and question "Superman" they realize he's a phony and arrest him. Later, Jimmy tells Clark how he's convinced that Clark isn't Superman otherwise he'd be effected by the Kryptonite in his hands, Clark -- knowing that it's fake -- decides to let Jimmy believe the Kryptonite is real to maintain his secret identity.
- When Jimmy is on his way home after a day of work at the Daily Planet, Perry White cautions Jimmy to store evidence against the Bedone Gang in the Planet's safe. Not believing that the Bedone Gang would pose a threat, Jimmy passes up the offer and drives home. On his way he is confronted by strange alien ants from another world, they ask Jimmy for to help them cure an illness, and Jimmy calls in Superman for help. When Superman arrives, the ant creatures are nowhere to be seen, making Superman wonder if Jimmy is seeing things.
The same thing happen again when Jimmy spies an eagle dropping a large ruby just outside his window, when he calls Superman to retrieve it, it's no there. Later, as Jimmy is driving to work, he drives into a fog and apparently is attacked by cave men and a Dinosaur. As with the previous scenarios, the moment that Jimmy calls Superman for help the threat disappears before the Man of Steel can arrive.
When Jimmy arrives home the Bedone Gang is waiting for him, as it turns out they had been staging hoaxes to make it so Superman wouldn't come to Jimmy's rescue by making him think that Olsen has been crying wolf. This plan works because when Jimmy signals for help, Superman chooses to ignore it. Caught in a bind, Jimmy gives the Bedone Gang the evidence he compiled against them, however not before slipping his signal watch into the box with the evidence. The constant buzzing drives Superman nuts but he continues to ignore it.
When he arrives at the Daily Planet, he is shortly joined by Jimmy, and Superman takes notice that Jimmy isn't wearing his signal watch. When Jimmy explains what he'd done, Superman rushes to the Bedone Gang's hideout and busts them, recovering the evidence and learning of their plot to make Superman not believe Jimmy.
- Jimmy is depressed that he cannot join in on a father and son picnic because he is an orphan. This changes when Superman arrives and tells Jimmy that he's legally adopted the cub reporter and the two participate in the festivities. Later, Superman takes Jimmy to their new home, where Jimmy has his own room, however Superman cautions Jimmy to never enter his secret identity room where he keeps all the items he has to maintain his secret identity. Things begin to be less blissful when Superman brings Jimmy to his Fortress of Solitude and Jimmy asks to use a new device, and suddenly Superman snaps at him and acts as though he did not give Jimmy permission, as punishment Superman vows never to bring Jimmy back to the Fortress of Solitude again.
Later, when Superman goes off on another adventure, he leaves Jimmy behind to do the dishes. When the door to his secret identity room is left open, Superman instantly blames Jimmy and warns him against going in the room. When Jimmy realizes it's fathers day, he gets Superman a house coat with the Superman emblem on it. Superman, scoffing at it's imperfection promptly destroys it with his x-ray vision. Eventually things get bad enough, before the trial period of being father-and-son is over Jimmy asks the Judge to cancel the adoption proceedings.
After Superman reveals that her purposely was cruel to Jimmy because after adopting Jimmy one of his computers warned him that Superman will destroy his own son. Jimmy suddenly realizes that the computer meant "Sun" not "Son" and points out that there is a star named after Superman. Realizing that the sun is collapsing, Superman speeds out into space and destroys it to insure that it's not a threat to space travelers. Afterwards, Superman learns that the judge will not overturn the decision to cancel Superman's adoption of Jimmy Olsen, and Superman apologizes to Jimmy. Jimmy takes it all on stride, glad that at least he is still Superman's pal.
